When Peter Metzner purchased this iconic location in Potts Point from Giovanna Toppi in 2021, he spoke with her about his intention to pay homage to its wonderful history in creating an important, timeless and unique luxury residence: La Strada.
Peter first met Giovanna at La Strada Ristorante while working with Leo Schofield in the early 1990s.
He has extensive experience in fashion, design, hospitality and development of both residential and commercial properties, combining a design-led vision that considers the aesthetics and functionality for the end user in both the sensory and material sense.
In the creation of La Strada his primary focus has been to ensure the entire building is truly Potts Point in every aspect. “It’s such a unique village that must be respected and celebrated throughout the entire La Strada design,” he said.
As a collective, all partners involved in La Strada – across architecture, interior design, structure and services – have completed extensive documentation and are well advanced on construction methodology, collaborating closely with a prominent Sydney builder to ensure the project is completely engineered for commencement.

Dangar Barin Smith is one of Australia’s leading residential and commercial creative landscape practices, founded in 1991by William Dangar. Naomi Barin leads the La Strada project, and with her deep horticultural knowledge has designed landscaping elements that will bring calming greenery and visual interest to both residents and the Potts Point community. Naomi has carefully considered colour, scale and environment for La Strada, with a focus on low-maintenance plants that will appeal to the senses.
Planter boxes on the balconies and Hughes Street side of the building will offer lush green outlooks, with large-leaf plants for shady areas. The exposed rooftop will benefit from striking, oversized succulents for a graphic effect, olive trees for their grey-green foliage and sculptural branching, and some native understory planting. The landscape design and planting on the rooftop will also create more intimate spaces. Whether working on boutique gardens or complex, large-scale residential landscapes, Naomi produces imaginative, enduring gardens that develop a sense of place and an element of wonder.
